Danica joined NITSCHNEIDER & PARTNERS in May 2018 and is a rising star in the office. She successfully attended the Ius Laboris University in Kyiv where her team won the HACK-ATHON with the project "GDPR applicability to your business". Ius Laboris asked her a few questions about her career and private life:
What has been your favourite international project, and why?
It was in my third year of practice, and we were in the middle of a complex transaction selling companies in two different jurisdictions. We covered transaction documentation, employees and their representatives and state authorities. Every day we had to deal with complications, from third-country employees being at the risk of losing their immigration status to lost packages full of documents. But in the end, my teammates and I were very proud following a successful closing, and I keep repeating to myself that if I could do that, I will be fine.
What advice would you give to junior lawyers new to international projects?
Watch, learn, participate, go for it 100% and never regret late hours in the office. This is the time to sponge as much knowledge and experience as possible. The time to become a skilled lawyer whom your clients trust. I very much appreciate every opportunity given to me by my mentors to be part of conference calls, negotiations, and email chains and to understand why they ask all the questions they so that I can emulate the way they work.
What would you do for a career if you weren’t doing law?
A wedding planner or copywriter. People usually do not see lawyers as very creative people or having management skills, but these are essential for our work, and I would find them useful in these jobs.
If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?
Jennifer Lawrence. We have one thing in common: we both trip over things in the most unexpected situations. Besides, she is a talented actress with a great personality and yet remains ‘the girl next door’.
